Understanding Performance

Why a sponsor deck needs three kinds of images

You’re not a model. You’re an athlete building a personal brand, and the imagery a sponsor deck needs is different from a portfolio or a fashion shoot. Three image types do three different jobs.

Portrait. The clean, sponsor-ready image that sits on the front page of your media kit. Eye contact, presence, professionalism. This is the image a sponsor uses internally when they’re pitching you to their team.

Action and movement. Studio-controlled or staged on location. You in motion, in kit, doing recognisable athletic things. This is the image that proves you’re an athlete, not just someone with a media kit.

Lifestyle and brand. You away from the game. Training, recovery, environment. This is the image a sponsor uses when they’re showing how you fit their brand world, not just how you fit a uniform.

A media kit needs all three. A sponsor deck pitching a six-figure deal needs all three at standard. Most athletes show up with phone shots of one and wonder why deals stall.

“Nick gets the athlete mindset. The shoot was efficient, the direction was clear, and the images were amazing..”

Common Questions

What athletes ask before booking

I’m not comfortable in front of the camera. Will that be a problem?

Most athletes feel the same way. You’re trained to perform, not pose. I’ll direct you clearly through every shot. Think of it like a coach giving you technical cues. The performance mindset you already have translates perfectly once you know what’s expected.

How long does a session actually take?

90 minutes for the Starting Reveal. 180 minutes for the Sponsorship Reveal. The Legacy Reveal can run up to 4 hours, including look and location changes.

What’s the difference between the action shots in the package and the Match-Day add-on?

Two different jobs. The action shots in your package are staged or studio-controlled. You in motion, in kit, captured in a session built around the camera. They show your discipline and presence. The Match-Day add-on is photography of you actually competing or playing in a real game or training environment. It shows you doing the thing you’re known for. A strong sponsor deck typically wants both.

Can I use these images for sponsor pitches and media kits?

Yes. Personal usage rights cover sponsor proposals, media kits, social media, websites, your own platforms, and your own promotional materials. Use them for anything that’s about your career and your own brand. If a sponsor or third party wants to license the images for their own commercial use (their advertising, their packaging, their channels), that’s a separate conversation and a separate licence. Most athletes never need that. If you do, we’ll sort it.

If a sponsorship opportunity arises and a brand wants to take the imagery further commercially, connect them with Premier Portraits, and the licensing conversation gets handled from there.

What’s the difference between Professional Headshots and Brand images?

Professional Headshots are clean, sponsor-ready portraits. They’re what goes in media kits and official materials. Brand Images are lifestyle, training, and editorial shots that show personality and athletic context, and are used to build your social presence and tell your story.

Do you shoot on-field or in-competition?

Yes, as an optional add-on (+$300). Requires coordination with your club or venue, and is subject to availability based on access permissions. Most packages focus on controlled studio and environmental sessions for consistency and quality.

How quickly can I get the images if I have a deadline?

Standard delivery is 10 to 14 days. For time-sensitive opportunities, the Rapid Delivery add-on (+$400) delivers your full gallery in 5 to 7 days. If you have a specific sponsor deadline, tell me when you book, and we’ll work around it.

What are your payment options?

50% deposit secures your date; the balance is due 7 days before the shoot. Afterpay accepted.

Which package should I book?

The Sponsorship Reveal is where most athletes land. It gives you full coverage across portrait, action, and lifestyle at the level a sponsor deck actually needs. Book a free 15-minute call, and I’ll help you decide based on where you’re going and what your timeline is.

Before You Book

Read deeper

If you want more context before booking, I’ve written about whether athletes actually need professional headshots in the first place, what brands are actually looking for when they review a sponsorship deck, how athlete brand photography differs from sports action and corporate headshots, and how AFL and AFLW players specifically are building personal brands in the Melbourne market. They’re written for the same athletes this page is written for, and they’ll tell you whether what I do is the right fit.
